Social Simulation Fest 2025

May 20-21

The European Social Simulation Association is excited to bring to you the 2025 edition of the Social Simulation Festival.

Free and featuring 8 online sessions over 2 days (May 20th and 21st), participants will get access to an amazing set of speakers and interactive workshops. All sessions are designed to help both new and experienced social simulation researchers gain new knowledge and connections across the community and the globe.

Day 1 highlights include:

  • An inspirational talk by early career researcher and public servant, Alexander Melchior on policy modeling to kick off the festival.
  • ESSA@work, a hands-on session led by Vivek Nallur and Katharina Luckner, showcasing applied simulation projects and practitioner insights.
  • Incremental Science in social simulations with Dino Carpentras, focusing on step-by-step model building for robust cumulative research.
  • A cross-continental session on ESSA and CSSSA, where Jason Thompson, Bruce Edmonds, Cale Reeves, and Tim Guilden explore synergies between European and Australasian social simulation communities.

Day 2 highlights include:

  • A methodological deep dive in Qual2Rule, led by Blanca Luque Capellas and Bruce Edmonds, demonstrating how to turn qualitative data into formal rules for simulation.
  • Another session by Vivek Nallur and Katharina Luckner on Modelling Deep Structural Change, tackling how to represent complex transformations in social systems.
  • Using HPC with ABMs, where Gary Polhill and Alison Heppenstal explore how to scale up simulations using high-performance computing.
  • The closing inspirational talk by Cheick Amed Diloma Gabriel Traore, offering insights from global simulation practice and research.
